One of the most important things you can do for your oral health is schedule regular dental checkups and cleanings. By seeing your dentist twice a year, you can help prevent any oral health problems before they cause discomfort or require extensive or invasive treatment. Our eyes act as early warning systems for serious health conditions. So an annual exam is important for everyone in your family. Blood vessels in the eye allow eye doctors to see what's going on throughout our bodies, which often helps them be the first to spot signs of health conditions, such as hypertension and diabetes in addition to the common ailments of glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts. Early detection and treatment can prevent most vision loss related to diabetes. And since people with diabetes are more susceptible to glaucoma and other serious conditions, like heart disease and stroke, regular eye exams help you get on the path to early treatment and management.
